In a pen-and-ink style representative of the comic arts of the 1950's, Joseph Farrel is clearly the master of humiliation and pain, beyond simple bondage and men "having their way with" unwilling young girls or enjoying "fun and games" with willing participants. Farrel's technique is a mix between what could be called "romantic" and "realistic," and his specialty is detailed drawings of women being forced to endure severe, sometimes mutilating injury and to commit almost unspeakable acts of self-degradation. The subjects of his art demonstrate the anguished faces and flowing tears (and sometimes dripping blood) of unwilling victims these are definitely not depictions of consensual sex, and are not for the squeamish.
Farrel's use of children as devices for additional humiliation (and occasionally as participants in the scene) is something not often seen in bondage art, though certainly not unheard of. Farrel is also a big fan of sexual penetration of the female subjects, particularly with outsize or unusual objects.
Another interesting aspect to Farrel's art is the presence in many of the pictures of one or more interested female assistants or participants. Occasionally the female humiliator is alone or with other women; but usually she is there as a backup to the principle male dominant.
The illustrations I like best are where women are forced to display themselves to crowds of lusting men or engage in sex for the amusement of their men. As a submissive, these are the kinds of things I've experienced (on a usually less public level) and fantasize about. I've certainly been ordered to do things I wouldn't have done otherwise but I accept myself and know I want to submit to those orders. Doing so excites me. The women in Farrel's drawings, however, are clearly beyond simple embarrassment and are certainly not aroused by their predicaments. No enjoyment or participation here; this is strictly nonconsensual activity.
The pages of Farrel's works certainly resonate with the screams of abasement and suffering. In few other collections will you be likely to find the variety and depth of degradation and extreme punishment found in his pages, with the possible exception of the genre which specializes in "snuff" and serious mutilation.
